Trev's visit to Uckfield.

I remember with great findness when Trev visited me in Uckfield, down in East Sussex around about 1986 when I was in the final 12 months of my Army career.  I was due to retire from HM Servicein 1987 and was living in Uckfield with my wife.  My marriage was very rocky and Trev came down because he was worried about me.  He stayed with us for a couple of weeks.  He did what he was best at and found himself a little pub to go to and have his daily pint.  I was in the throws of building an extension on my back door and was struggling to get the money together to pay for it.  Trev did what only Trev could do and found a timber merchant who had some 4 x 2 and stuff that he got a ridiculously low price for and even did most of the work on the extension.  He finished it for me and it was a grand job, just what I wanted.  He also pruned an apple tree for me, he pruned it that well that it never grew apples again bless him.  He was an absolute treasure and would do anything for me.  We went up to South London on a couple of occassion and stayed in a Military studio hiring I had whilst working as a Permanent Staff to the TA in Tulse Hill.  We had some good times up there and had our daily visit to the The Thicket Inn, which was an Irish pub at Crystal Palace.  It was a fantastic two weeks with my old mate and took me back to 1962/3 when we were growing up and getting to know what life was all about.  Trev led the way yet again, something he had always done since the day I met him.  I miss him dreadfully and will never forget him.  If there is an afterlife, I hope we meet again you wonderful man, I still love you like a Brother and even though I don't believe in afterlife, I hope I'm wrong if it means seeing you with wings on your back.  Wings that you always had as far as I was concerned when we were together as lads.  You were my hero mate and always will be.
